BALA’S BIRTHDAY EVENT SUMMARY
On the 28th of May, 2018, Bala’s Thirunakshatram was celebrated at
Malur. The temple prakaram was decked with flowers and rangolis, while
the vadhyam troupe played melodious tunes.
The events commenced with Go poojai after the customary Veerabhadra
and Ganapathi poojai. After this, sankalpam of the Trustees, Executive
members and event sponsors was performed. Lalitha homam and Bala-
tripurasundari homams were conducted by Balu vadhyar and team in an
elaborate agama vidhi. Simultaneously, arrangements for maha ab-
hishekam were being done with 51 tender coconuts, 10 litres of milk, etc.
The homam offering included 1008 sets of thamboolam (vethalai, paakku
and manjal) dipped in honey. Kanya, vadugu, dampatti and sumangali
poojas were performed. The homam concluded with poornahuti. A silver
crown for Bala was offered by Shri Ravi Shankar and family. The pra-
sadam included an offering of 11 varieties of Indian sweets (laddu, besan
laddu, dry fruit laddu, cashew burfi, coconut burfi, chocolate burfi, bom-
bay halwa, carrot halwa, pumpkin halwa, dry jamun and adhirasam)
along with the usual offering of pal payasam, sakkarai pongal, puli-
yogare, panchamrutham and curd rice. Sweet boxes consisting of 8 vari-
eties were made.
After the elaborate alankaram, prasadam was distributed to the large
number of attendees as lunch.
In the evening, oonjal utsavam was performed. The oonjal was decked in
silk and adorned with flowers. The utsava murthy of Bala was rocked in
the cradle by devotees to the singing of Bala Sahasranamam and chant-
ing of bhajans. The event concluded with a mangalarathi.
